Soft Chiaroscuro
Light no longer simply illuminates the fabric. It becomes part of its identity.
Against dark grounds, iridescent flashes reveal unexpected depths of colour. Metallic nuances emerge through uneven textures, while liquid-like finishes introduce reflections that shift from deep violet and burgundy to electric pink and green.
The interest lies in the construction of these effects. Lustrous yarns, textured weaves and irregular surface treatments break up uniform shine, creating areas of different intensity. Changes in yarn direction, subtle reliefs and crinkled textures alter the way the material catches light, giving even compact fabrics a sense of fluidity.
These are not simply glossy textiles. Their richness comes from the interaction between structure and finish: matte grounds absorb light, reflective details bring selected areas forward, and colour appears to move across the fabric rather than remain fixed on its surface.
The references extend beyond conventional metallic fabrics, suggesting new possibilities for jacquards, coated textiles and experimental yarn combinations. What matters is not maximum brilliance, but the precision with which it is controlled.
Soft Chiaroscuro is one of the directions explored in the newly released Fashionize Focus Fabrics SS28, available exclusively to Fashionize subscribers.
